Donald Trump's social media post depicting himself as a divine figure drew swift condemnation but resonated with a fringe segment of Iranians who view him as an instrument against Tehran's regime.

A social media post by former U.S. President Donald Trump, depicting himself with a halo and the words "God made Trump," has ignited a firestorm of criticism from religious leaders and political observers. However, in a complex and unexpected twist, the imagery and sentiment have found a receptive, albeit fringe, audience among a specific segment of the Iranian diaspora and opposition: those who have lost family and friends to the Islamic Republic's authorities and genuinely believe Trump to be an instrument of divine retribution.

On his Truth Social platform, President Trump posted the now-deleted image, which stylized him with a golden glow and a light beam emanating from his hand. The post was swiftly met with intense backlash, including from many within his own Christian conservative base, who decried it as blasphemous. The image was later removed. In a statement, Trump clarified, "It was meant to be a doctor, helping people, and that's what I do," referring to the imagery resembling a figure from the Red Cross. This explanation did little to quell the controversy, which quickly transcended domestic U.S. politics and entered the global arena.
